due to the comprehensiveness of china’s “reform and open” policies, economics plays an increasingly important role in the development of its global position. though more and more companies built, management of companies cannot catch up with the development of the companies. management is a burgeoning field in china, so i hope i can acquire more modern knowledge on management in england.
the roots of my strong interest in business can be traced back to my childhood. my father was among the first of china’s new breed of modern entrepreneurs. as a young girl, it was inspirational hearing about his business ventures, and meeting the varied and interesting circle of entrepreneurs. my mother was also involved in business as an accountant, helping him with simple calculations. and so it was early in my life that i hoped i, also, would someday be able to enter the realm of business.
with the time of growing up, i preferred reading books to satisfy my curiosity. i never ceased to contemplate over the questions i encountered. subjects on business and management became a special fascination to me and my knowledge of psychology as well as interest in this field was increasing rapidly.
as a high school student in china, i had to concentrate on the college entrance examination (cee), even so, books not related to the exams were never excluded from my life. unfortunately when sitting in the exam in june, 20xx, i was so nervous that i didn’t score well in the cee exam. i enrolled in the department of computer science in zhejiang college of traditional chinese medicine. any attempt to persuade myself to focus on my major turned out to be a failure at the beginning of my college life. after several terms, i realized that i would never be interested in being a programmer or an engineer. at that moment, i lost my direction and objectives.
my persistence in reading saved me from the dark situation. as a matter of fact, i enjoyed reading the books included encyclopedia american, and some books about management by peter f.drucker. i began to notice something interesting: why some companies can produce more than others? why some company can sell more than others? why some companies can build up but others cannot when facing the same difficulties?
with the questions in my mind, i started to read many relevant books. i was lucky to read the book “jack: straight from the gut”by jack welch, in which john a. byrne makes a clear illustration that the management is important for a company. when i was a junior, i ran a bookshop by myself near my school. i should manage not only the finance in the shop but also the employees in my shop even made some strategies to enlarge the business in my shop to hold on the run the shop. from this, my interpersonal skills and the capacity in business has been greatly developed, definitely i was increasingly interested in what i was doing. by december, 20xx, i had finally determined to take business management as my career instead of it. to accumulate more relevant knowledge, i strived to gain more practical work experience in some big companies.
fortunately, as a senior, i began by conducting an internship in the architecture company in zhejiang province. over six months, i worked as an assistant of the manager to harmonize the relationship between the different departments in this company and to draft some management system, which broadened my perspective of management conditions and business performance in different industries. the experience showed me that management is much more important than that of i thought in big companies. after graduation, i continued my work in this company. in may, 20xx, the company offered me an opportunity to participate in an training program held by a famous management school. through in-depth discussions with teachers and students in the classes, they all encouraged me to pursue my future career in management field because of my intellectual ability and the brand new ideas i mentioned.

自述,也即personal statement,是所有出國文件中最重要的部分,它是申請(qǐng)者最主要的自我包裝。申請(qǐng)被錄取和經(jīng)濟(jì)資助就是要把自己推銷給評(píng)審者。你的重任是讓這一文件反映你的個(gè)性和才智。寫自述即使對(duì)以英語為母語的北美學(xué)生也是頗費(fèi)心力的事情,對(duì)中國申請(qǐng)者來說,用英語寫作本來就是困難的事,更何況自述是為了表現(xiàn)和包裝自己,有違我們的文化習(xí)俗,寫起來往往備感吃力。中國申請(qǐng)者往往沒有面談的機(jī)會(huì),這份文件因而愈發(fā)顯得重要。

3.我最初是如何對(duì)目前所選專業(yè)感興趣的?我在其后的歲月中又是如何加深了對(duì)這一學(xué)科領(lǐng)域的認(rèn)識(shí)?我在這一領(lǐng)域已經(jīng)取得了什么樣的成績(jī)?是什么因素使我自信,能夠在這一領(lǐng)域有所建樹?
4.在上學(xué)期間我從事了那些助教、助研、社會(huì)實(shí)踐、暑期工作?通過這些活動(dòng)在什么方面得到了提高(比如科研能力、組織能力和領(lǐng)導(dǎo)能力等)?在步入社會(huì)后的工作中完成過什么項(xiàng)目,取得了哪些成就,表現(xiàn)出何等才干?
5.我的最終的事業(yè)目標(biāo)是什么?
6.在我多年來的考試成績(jī)上有沒有需要解釋的地方?比方說我大學(xué)成績(jī)一直很優(yōu)異,但gre成績(jī)卻不怎么理想;我高年級(jí)的成績(jī)是否比低年級(jí)的成績(jī)有顯著的提高?
7.在自我奮斗的過程中是否需要克服超常的困難,如家庭生活貧困、身體殘疾等等?
8.我是否具備杰出的品格,思想?yún)R報(bào)專題比如誠實(shí),可靠、善良、刻苦等等,而我能否提供真憑實(shí)據(jù)來加以證明?我是否具備值得一提的很好的特別的工作習(xí)慣和態(tài)度,以及稟性上的優(yōu)勢(shì)。
9.我具備什么樣的特殊才能,如分析能力、領(lǐng)導(dǎo)才能和交流才能?我為什么比別的申請(qǐng)者更具有在事業(yè)上成功的把握?
要回答這些問題的確是不容易的,但你必須在正式寫作自述之前全面準(zhǔn)備,對(duì)這些問題加以認(rèn)真思考,因?yàn)槟愕淖允鲂枰卮鹚羞@些問題或其中的大部分。
對(duì)內(nèi)容有了把握后,就是要注意寫作技巧了。這里說的寫作技巧不是英語水平的問題,而是寫作的思路、取材和段落的安排。寫自述的最大忌諱就是寫得毫無特色、枯燥乏味。要知道每一個(gè)錄取評(píng)審委員需要閱讀成百上千份自述,其中大多數(shù)的自述的內(nèi)容都是雷同的,他們不可能有時(shí)間、精力和氣力在平淡中尋找不尋常,努力發(fā)掘你的優(yōu)秀之處。要寫得醒目,抓住讀者的注意力,這個(gè)責(zé)任完全在于你自己。
所以,自述的第一段或者是前二段至為重要。這頭一、二段必須能夠引起讀者對(duì)你的興趣,并且能夠得到關(guān)于你個(gè)人的最重要的信息。如果你的頭一、二段的內(nèi)容中有閃光之處,能夠給人留下不可磨滅的印象,那就達(dá)到了最佳效果。絕大多數(shù)的申請(qǐng)者的的確確有著類似的學(xué)歷和工作背景,而且現(xiàn)在又追求一個(gè)共同的目標(biāo):攻讀研究生。在這樣的情況下,讀者應(yīng)該不難想見,不論我們是漢語,還是用英語,描述自己的經(jīng)歷和追求的語匯和句式終究會(huì)趨向雷同。編者所強(qiáng)調(diào)的'獨(dú)特性',決不是僅指在語言上要獨(dú)樹一幟。獲得獨(dú)特性的更重要的有兩個(gè)方法:一是尋找獨(dú)特的思想方法或者說是審視自己的獨(dú)特角度,二是在陳述過程中采用故事手法。
采取第一種方法時(shí)我們從多種角度著眼確定文章的基調(diào),我們?cè)诖藢?duì)三種較常見的類型寫作時(shí)所應(yīng)遵循的策略進(jìn)行簡(jiǎn)要論述:
1.克服生活中的逆境型:peterson's guide中曾經(jīng)登載的一封外國人申請(qǐng)時(shí)寫的自述,作者的家庭背景是貧苦的、不識(shí)英文的第一代亞裔移民。作者沒有回避自己多花了幾年時(shí)間才完成大學(xué)的教育并且成績(jī)較差這一慘痛的事實(shí),而是就此問題展開對(duì)自己的介紹。他的家庭貧困,作為長(zhǎng)子肩負(fù)幫助父母撫養(yǎng)年幼的妹妹的重任。這樣,完成大學(xué)教育對(duì)他來說需要艱苦卓絕的努力。因此,通過他的敘述,一位奮斗不息、刻苦耐勞并具有高度責(zé)任感的年輕人的形象躍然紙上。
這位作者申請(qǐng)的學(xué)校是法學(xué)院,難度較大,但作者有力地陳述了他的理由:他的父母像許多亞裔移民一樣,不通英文,更不懂在美國用法律的手段來保護(hù)自己的權(quán)益。他現(xiàn)在申請(qǐng)讀法學(xué)院,目的就是為了將來能夠運(yùn)用法律的武器維護(hù)在美國少數(shù)族裔的權(quán)益。
這樣的信讀起來感人至深,作者當(dāng)然也被錄取了。成功之處就在于作者能用獨(dú)特的角度來看待自己的經(jīng)歷和追求的目標(biāo)。他所陳述的經(jīng)歷、思想和感受與其人生奮斗的目標(biāo)達(dá)到了高度的統(tǒng)一。

在準(zhǔn)備留學(xué)申請(qǐng)材料時(shí),作為對(duì)外聯(lián)系主要文件之一的簡(jiǎn)歷,其質(zhì)量高低將直接影響申請(qǐng)者的成功率,為了能讓對(duì)方清晰地了解申請(qǐng)者,簡(jiǎn)歷在寫作方面應(yīng)力求真實(shí)、全面、簡(jiǎn)潔、明了。
留學(xué)申請(qǐng)者的簡(jiǎn)歷應(yīng)包括以下幾個(gè)方面的內(nèi)容:
1.姓名:與各種學(xué)歷證明的姓名相同,如有更改姓名的情況,務(wù)必在公證時(shí)予以聲明,并附上公證書。
2.性別

9.個(gè)人的著作、論文或研究成果要分門別類列出,并一定要與個(gè)人專業(yè)經(jīng)歷相一致。所列著作要注明名稱、出版年月、出版單位。所列論文要注明論文題目,刊載雜志或期刊名稱、期號(hào)、語種。對(duì)于在學(xué)術(shù)會(huì)議上發(fā)表的文章還要注明學(xué)術(shù)會(huì)議的名稱、召開時(shí)間和地點(diǎn)等。如果其中有被外國學(xué)者評(píng)論過的,最好附上刊載評(píng)論文章的雜志名稱及時(shí)間。

我們的assignment通常分為兩種形式,一是essay, 一是report.二者在形式上有所差別,,但大體相同。assignment上面會(huì)對(duì)寫成essay還是report格式作出明確要求。在閱讀題目時(shí),請(qǐng)盡量仔細(xì)。
相同點(diǎn):
1、字體:times new roman, 字號(hào):小四, 行距:1.5倍。請(qǐng)有寫作之前就把這些格式調(diào)好,以避免寫好后再調(diào)會(huì)出現(xiàn)一些意相不到的'情況。
2、段與段之間隔行。每段不要求像中文寫作那樣空兩格,而是直接頂格寫。
下面還有一些相同點(diǎn),我在兩種文體分開討論時(shí),再涉及。
區(qū)別:
essay:
essay的寫作相對(duì)report要簡(jiǎn)單一些。通常只包括三個(gè)部分,introduction, main body, conclusion. introduction 包括topic的背景介紹和文章要解決的主要問題。一般占總字?jǐn)?shù)的10%左右。main body是主體部分,占總字?jǐn)?shù)80%左右。如果題目中作了具體要求,就根據(jù)題目提到的幾個(gè)方面來逐一討論就可以了。有的題目沒有作具體要求,就根據(jù)自己的構(gòu)思來寫。但要求有邏輯性。conclusion也是占10%,在這一段里把文章中的主要觀點(diǎn)用一到兩句話概括出來。
essay 可以不寫題目,不要把小標(biāo)題加粗。
reference的寫作是兩種形式都要涉及的,我放在最后來詳細(xì)說。

due to the comprehensiveness of china’s “reform and open” policies, economics plays an increasingly important role in the development of its global position. though more and more companies built, management of companies cannot catch up with the development of the companies. management is a burgeoning field in china, so i hope i can acquire more modern knowledge on management in england.
the roots of my strong interest in business can be traced back to my childhood. my father was among the first of china’s new breed of modern entrepreneurs. as a young girl, it was inspirational hearing about his business ventures, and meeting the varied and interesting circle of entrepreneurs. my mother was also involved in business as an accountant, helping him with simple calculations. and so it was early in my life that i hoped i, also, would someday be able to enter the realm of business.
with the time of growing up, i preferred reading books to satisfy my curiosity. i never ceased to contemplate over the questions i encountered. subjects on business and management became a special fascination to me and my knowledge of psychology as well as interest in this field was increasing rapidly.
as a high school student in china, i had to concentrate on the college entrance examination (cee), even so, books not related to the exams were never excluded from my life. unfortunately when sitting in the exam in june, 20xx, i was so nervous that i didn’t score well in the cee exam. i enrolled in the department of computer science in zhejiang college of traditional chinese medicine. any attempt to persuade myself to focus on my major turned out to be a failure at the beginning of my college life. after several terms, i realized that i would never be interested in being a programmer or an engineer. at that moment, i lost my direction and objectives.

with the questions in my mind, i started to read many relevant books. i was lucky to read the book “jack: straight from the gut”by jack welch, in which john a. byrne makes a clear illustration that the management is important for a company. when i was a junior, i ran a bookshop by myself near my school. i should manage not only the finance in the shop but also the employees in my shop even made some strategies to enlarge the business in my shop to hold on the run the shop. from this, my interpersonal skills and the capacity in business has been greatly developed, definitely i was increasingly interested in what i was doing. by december, 20xx, i had finally determined to take business management as my career instead of it. to accumulate more relevant knowledge, i strived to gain more practical work experience in some big companies.
